EVENT: Best Mom Ever!

I don’t usually brag about my academic achievements, what for?! I already got a great job. What matters most now is your professional experience and capabilities. But today? This will have to be an exemption because of one great person. To say I worked my ass of for this would be an understatement. Going back into my last week of refresher course, my personal assessment wasn’t that good. Maybe because I was intimidated by other students from bigger universities. A meek lass from the province who took once in a lifetime opportunity to become a certified Inhinyero Sibil. Many times, I thought I was going to blow my chance. But thankfully, through prayers, sleepless nights, tears, with the help of  endless wall of formulas written on manila paper, I managed to finish 2 long days of solving problems.

I know grades don’t define you, but I needed it to prove something for myself, that my mom would be proud of. I may not be the best engineer in town, but one thing’s for sure, my PRC license 10 years ago (May 2005 CE Board) is the best  gift I gave on Mother’s Day. I passed the Board Exam not because I’m matalino (believe me, I am not!) But because my mom taught that If you want to become a better version of yourself, do the things that will make you happy. And what makes me happy is to see you happy.

You know I am proud of what I have achieved, but I am more proud to have a mother like you. You never pressured me into this, which I am very thankful for. I will always remember that you are the one who shaped me into the person I am today.

Para sa unang dekada ng aking lisensya, this one’s for you Ma, only for you, and you know that. No words can ever equate your love and support to us. Thank you Ma, for everything... Happy Mother’s Day and We Love You!

PEOPLE: Oscar dela Renta, an Icon of Style

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscar_de_la_Renta

Although I have a real passion with fashion,  I am not a fashion guru nor even a fashion icon. But Oscar dela Renta is a name that moved fashion in a fast forward pace. Too sad that the world of fashion lost another icon of style.

When you say Oscar dela REnta, it means red carpet that never missed any best dressed lists. Oscar died in 20th October 2014 due to cancer complication and left an enormous fashion legacy. But not only he left us timeless gowns and couture, he also left the world with his memorable quotes with a touch of humor. Here are some of his quotes:

1. ON PERSONAL STYLE
“Fashion is about dressing according to what’s fashionable. Style is more about being yourself.”

2. ON HIS DESIGN AESTHETIC

“I want to make clothes that people will wear, not styles that will make a big splash on the runway.”

3. ON EVERYDAY WEAR

“I don’t really know how to do casual clothes.”

 4. ON HIS FAVORITE SOUND
“There is no sound more feminine than a woman in a taffeta dress.”

 5. ON SOCIAL MEDIA
“Although I have no plans to tweet, I am fascinated by developments on the Internet.”

 6. ON EACH OF HIS GOWNS
“There is always an emotional element to anything that you make.”

7. ON DRAMATIC DESIGNS

“I am not interested in shock tactics. I just want to make beautiful clothes.”

8. ON HIS INSPIRATION

“Every season I am inspired by women.”

9. ON CONFIDENCE

“You have to walk like you have three men walking behind you.”

 10. ON THE IMPORTANCE OF A SIGNATURE SCENT
“If you wear a different perfume every day, I do not recognize you.”

11. ON HIS RESPECT FOR WOMEN

“The qualities I most admire in women are confidence and kindness.”

12. ON WHY HE LOVED HIS JOB

“My job as a designer is to make a woman feel her very best.”

13. ON THE DYNAMICS OF FASHION

“The great thing about fashion, is that it always moves forward.”

14. ON HIS FAVORITE PASTIMES

“Dominos, bridge…I love to compete. And rules were made to be broken.”

 15. AND HIS HOBBIES
“Gardening is how I relax. It’s another form of creating and playing with colors.”

16. ON HIS DAILY WARDROBE

“I see people in a colorful shirt and I think, My God, I would really love to wear that, but then I am afraid that when I walk into the door, the host will say, ‘I’m sorry, but the Latin band walks through that other door.’”

17. ON FEMINISM

When I started, the woman went to the store to buy a dress. She saw it in pink and red, and then she remembered that the husband, who is probably going to pay for the dress, loves it in pink. So she buys the pink. Today, the same woman goes to the store and remembers the husband likes pink, and she buys the red.”

18. ON FASHION WEEK

“Never, ever confuse what happens on a runway with fashion. A runway is spectacle.”

http://politikalon.blogspot.com/2012/09/12-little-things-every-filipino-can-do.html

Amid recent calamities and political chaos, Filipinos seem to continue to find reasons to smile. In fact, we're ranked among the world's 6th most positive people.

Moving on
According to a survey done by Gallup, an American research company, a lot of Filipinos experienced "positive emotions" in 2013. This is quite a feat, as that's the year the country was hit by Typhoon Yolanda, the massive Visayas quake, and the standoff that rocked Zamboanga.

Most optimistic countries
Below is a list of the top 10 most positive countries and their respective positivity indexes:
1. Paraguay - 87
2. Panama - 86
3. Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Ecuador - 83
4. Costa Rica, Colombia, and Denmark - 82
5. Honduras, Venezuela, and El Sallvador - 81
6. Indonesia, Philippines, and Thailand - 80
7. United Arab Emirates, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia - 79
8. Chile, Argentina, Taiwan, Sweden, Iceland, United States of America, Netherlands, and Dominican Republic - 78
9. Rwanda - 77
10. Austria, Uzbekistan, Uruguay, China, Ireland, Mexico, France, Mali, and Finland - 76
On the other hand, Syria ranked the lowest in the survey with a score of 36 on the index.

Survey details
Gallup said that the results are based on telephone and face-to-face interviews with approximately 1,000 adults (aged 15 and older) in each of the 132 countries covered by the survey.
By the way, among the questions asked in the survey are the following:
  • Did you feel well-rested yesterday?
  • Were you treated with respect all day yesterday?
  • Did you learn something interesting yesterday?

PEOPLE: I Love You More Today than Yesterday, Posh Spice

Yes, if you're not actually familiar with her, she' the famous "Posh Spice" of the defunct Spice Girls (which I lurve the most during the 90's). Yes, she is Victoria Adams - Beckham, the famous better half of a famous football star player David Beckham. They have cleaned out their closets for a cause.

Playful Vicky
The Ocean of Shoes!
I wish we have the same shoe size, wahhhh!
The always posh pair has sifted through their stuffed closets rounding up 20 boxes of goodies for the British Red Cross's charity sale benefiting Philippines typhoon victims. In a photo posted on Twitter Thursday, a casually dressed Victoria is playfully sitting on one of the extra large boxes while other boxes are stacked around her. A second pic shows a sea of shoes in every color of the rainbow. In the background are stacks of clothing on hangers.

The items — dresses, tops, suits, and shoes from labels including Dolce & Gabbana, Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik, and Roberto Cavalli — go on sale Friday at the organization's Kensington and Chelsea shop in London at 11 a.m. With all the hype, you can guarantee there will be a line outside of potential buyers for the pricey fashions worn by the pair — and Victoria, who has her own eponymous clothing line, certainly hopes that's the case.

"Typhoon Haiyan has devastated the Philippines, killing thousands and leaving hundreds of thousands homeless, and the Red Cross is carrying out an enormous relief project to help all those in desperate need," she said in a statement. "David and I urge everyone in Britain to join us in supporting the Shop Drop for the Philippines campaign. Everyone has something in their closet they were holding onto — a dress, suit, or pair of shoes they thought they might wear again."

She continued, "Dig them out, bag them up, drop them off and give someone else the chance to buy them. You'll be raising much-needed funds for the Red Cross's aid effort."

Anyway, let's take a look of some fashionable moments of Posh Spice, from the day she started in Spice Girls:

PEOPLE: MDS, A Lawyer, a Senator and a Love Guru?!

As i was browsing Yahoo Philippines this morning, I felt bad because Yolanda Aftermath is still all over the news. So I keep looking and finding some new stuff, until I saw this article - MIRIAM, THE LOVE GURU?

Si Madam, nakikiuso, may mga char n pick up lines na din ang lola nyo. But somehow, this made me smile (and giggle!), may kilig factor hahahaha! But I find this woman really interesting and intelligent because amidst the controversial Napoloes Case and the situation of our Kababayan in Visayas, I never expected that Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago will show her softer and romantic side, bringing out lighter moments.

Baka may mapick up kayo sa pick up lines ni Madam: +_+
