Will you be turning off your lights this
Saturday, March 29, to celebrate Earth Hour,
between 8:30 p.m. and
9:30 p.m?
Earth
Hour is a worldwide initiative organized by World Wide Fund for Nature,
which has grown from a single lights-off event in Sydney, Australia in
2007, to a global event that engages more than 7,000 cities and towns
worldwide.
Qatar has also joined this movement since the
campaign's rise to popularity in 2009. Here are some
organizations/companies that have decided to celebrate Earth Hour.
Ooredoo
Ooredoo was the first company in Qatar
to publically commit to Earth Hour in 2009, taking part in the world’s
largest mass participation event to demonstrate its commitment to
protecting the environment.
For the sixth year in a row, Ooredoo
will join monuments and companies around the world on Saturday (March
29) in marking Earth Hour, by switching off all the lights and
non-essential systems at both tower in West Bay and its Airport HQ2, for
one hour from 8:30pm.
In addition, Ooredoo employees have
pledged to switch off the lights at home during Earth Hour, as the whole
company comes together to mark the occasion.
The Pearl-Qatar
The Pearl-Qatar is hosting Trash to Treasure Art Project
as part of their Earth Hour celebrations. The Pearl-Qatar will also
glow by candlelight, joining communities and organizations around the
world in celebrating this special hour. Last year this time, a number of
dining outlets on the Island had served dinner by candlelight, while
most residents turned off non-essential lights between 8:30 p.m. and
9:30 p.m.
Pearl has many other activities such as luminous face
painting, stage drums perfromance by SPARK, Earth Hour walk on boardwalk
accompanied by musical band (All activities on Porto Arabia) A
candle light dinner is available at most of its restaurants like Al
Tabkha, Burj Al Hamam, Casa paco, chocolate bar, Liza,Megu, Pampano,
Second Cup, The bread basket and Tse Yuang with a special "Earth Hour"
menu which does not exceed 100 QAR.
Aspire Zone Foundation
Aspire zone foundation is taking part of the Earth Hour again this year.
29th March, 8:30 - 9:30 pm, all non-essential lights will be turned off.
The Torch-Doha will join Aspire in this great initiative too.
During
Earth Hour, Aspire Zone will use solar powered lighting to light the
public football pitches and sports courts. Be fit and eco-friendly at
the same time. Check out their Facebook page to know more about their initiative
Doha Marriott
Doha
Marriott has done it before and will be doing it again. Theywill be
turning off their lights and will greet their guests in candle light.
The Torch - Doha
As
last year they will be turning off the exterior LED lights and lights
inside the hotel. Tea Garden and Three Sixty restaurants will serve food
at candle lights.
Six Senses Spa
The spa will be turning off the lights evoking a calm setting. Treatments will be done to the subtle sensation of candlelight.
St Regis Doha
Reggae on the beach and Jazz in the dark
Candlelight
and acoustic performance at JALC Doha. Dominick Farinacci and the JALC
All Stars will be performing. Earth Hour and Jazz continues until
midnight
Ritz Carlton
Earth Hour Candlelight Pilates Class

hotel will also switch off the lights in the lobby area and has invited
the guests also to take part by switching off lights.

DOHA will switch of their non essential lights and their Blue hanging
lights in the lobby. Candles will be lit up across the lobby area and
guests staying at the hotel have been invited to join the cause.
Radisson Blu
Radisson
Blu will have candle light throughout the hotel in public areas. The
hotel will have dinner by candle light in three of its restaurants –
Bentley’s Grill, Pier 12 and Maxim.
Hilton Hotel Doha
Hilton
hotel has teamed up with The Youth Company to celebrate Earth Hour.
They will be planting trees and holding debates with the youth about
environmental issues along shutting down lights for the hour.

Tarsheed Qatar said they will turn the lights off for an hour at all the Kahramaa buildings across Doha
MIA will switch of exterior lights.
Kempinski will also switch of non essential exterior lights and treat customers to candle light ambience in Aroma and The Longue.
